    The Revolutionary War Begins- Battle of Lexington
    When the British took over America, and the American colonists were fed up of their treatment, something happened that changed America's history. The first battle that was fought of the American Revolutionary War was the Battle at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. The battle lasted for LESS than one day, but that was just the beginning of the revolution. The battle of Lexington is important because without it, the revolution wouldn't have started and Britain would continue to rule us.
  • The Declaration of Independence is Drafted and Signed

    The Declaration of Independence is Drafted and Signed
    Determined to rule America as their own country, the American colonists appointed a "Commitee of Five" to write a Declaration of Independence. In this document, the representattives wrote complaints about the British, and that every being had unalienable rights that the British were trying to take away. The D.O.I was drafted on June 11th, 1776, but on July 4th, it was officially approved of and to the printer.

    8 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, and 1 day after the war began, the American Revolutionaries won. This was one of the happiest days of American history because no longer would they have to suffer Britain's harsh laws and the taxes imposed upon them. But the death of thousands of brave soldiers hovered over the colonists like a dark cloud. Till this day, we honor the gallant men who fought for the good of their country.

    The Constituition is Created
    In 1787, the Constitution was written to establish the United States government. This document created the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the government. The Constitution also has the Bill of Rights, which gives certain rights to U.S. citizens. This document was extremely important to the citizens because the Constituition set up our government and it allowed the people to give their opinion on certain matters, unlike the conditions when Britain was ruling us.

    The Civil War Begins
    The government was set up and everything was going well, until a new conflict came up. Americans went to Africa, and brought back thousands of African Americans. They even sold the Africans on auction so people could "buy" them and make them work like slaves, just because their color was darker than Americans. Many Americans though, were against this and tried to end slavery. The south part of the U.S.A seceded, or left the Union because they felt they had the right to slavery. Read on!

    Years later, the actual war occured in which General Lee (from the Confederates) surrendered to General Grant (Union). Shortly after the Union victory, a Southern sympathizer, John Wikes Booth, shot President Lincoln. Many were saddened at his death, especially African Americans, because without Lincoln, the Africans would not have been able to gain their freedom. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest battles of U.S. history, and without it, many Africans would still be slaved.

    The Nineteenth Amendment- Women's Right to Vote
    Women weren't allowed to vote! Many women over the country weren't being treated like equals. Since women were also part of the country, they should have the right to participate in voting! Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton drafted the amendment and first introduced it in 1878; it was forty-one years later, in 1919, when the Congress submitted the amendment to the states for ratification. Now, women could be a part of their country and were allowed to vote! This was very important.

    The Great Depression was the great economic crisis that is said to have been started because of the U.S. stock-market crash in 1929. The Treaty of Versailles made the United States very rich. Britain and France both gave large amounts of money to the U.S., and Germany had to pay a great amount of money for the damage they had done in World War I. This was an important date in history because it left many homeless and poverty-stricken, but we worked together and made it through!

    9/11- The Attack that Changed Everything
    On September 11th, 2001, 4 planes were hijacked. Two of the planes were flown in to the Twin Towers and caused many deaths. Who were the terrorists, you ask? They were Al Quaeda! One of the planes crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the military. The last plane crashed in to a remote field. These attcks were really important, as they changed how strict the security is. Every year, we honor those whose lives were taken by the 9/11 attacks.

    Osama bin Laden- "Justice is Done"
    On May 2nd, 2011, President Obama said, "Justice is done". It was true, justice had been done, because today was the day Osama, the terrorist who responsible for many attacks, was shot by a Navy Seal! Osama was said to have been behind the embassy bombings in Africa and the London Subway Bombings. According to news, the Seals broke in to Osama's hideout, an expensive compound located near the Pakistan Military Academy. This event was important because we no longer had to worry about any attacks!
