  • First Job

    First Job
On this day, I attended my first day of work. I worked as a coal miner, and I was making a little bit of money. Still, I was not wealthy enough. I started out by counting the coal pieces we found, and putting them back in a bucket to stow away. I worked with two others, but we barely found any coal. We needed more to keep up our lifestyles.
  • Baby Boy

    Baby Boy
Today, I had a baby boy. I named him Huang-Fu, in hope that he would bring us fortune, since that is the meaning of his name. I realized that I could not possibly afford to give him a good life with what I do for money now, so I started to work three extra hours per day. This still was not enough money.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Chinese Exclusion Act
This was a federal law passed in response to complaints by workers on the West Coast that competition from Chinese immigrants was driving down their wages and threatening white “racial purity.” This made it so Chinese immigration could not go to America for ten years and declared Chinese immigrants ineligible to be American citizens. This made it very difficult for when I was trying to travel to America for better business. They did not let me pass, so I had to wait.
  • Gold Mining

    Gold Mining
I realized that instead of coal, I should mine for gold because it pays a lot more. On this day, I was in the mountains, searching for coal and I thought I found some. I doug up the area, but instead found gold in my shovel. The was worth five times more than coal that I was finding was. I brought it to the village and bought a nice dinner. I realized on this day that I wanted gold. There was still not enough, but it was better than coal.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold Rush
I heard news about a year back aboutause of the a gold rush in the western side of America. I wanted so badly to travel there and start digging, but I could not because of the Chinese Excusion Act. After the act ended, I traveled all the way to Ellis Isdland and made it over to America. On this day, I discovered a whole section that was filled with gold. This was left over from the California gold rush. I became an over night millionare, and bought a new home for my son and I to share in peace.
  • Being Robbed

    Being Robbed
Today, I woke up to find that all of my gold I collected was gone. Because of this, I could not afford to own my house. I had to really rethink how I lived and realized that since I was in America, there were amny jobs I could do for money. Instead, I decided to go back to mining coal because there was loads of it in the area.
  • Factory coal

    Factory coal
Factories in the area needed energy to run their machines. Since I had worked for many years as a miner, I knew that coal could be the feul they needed to run all of the machines. On December 31, 1910, I started to sell the coal I dug up to these factories in need. I started to earn a lot of monney agin, so I went out and bought back my old house. This was really a life changing day, and it really helped my child prepare for his future. With this shelter, he felt protected and sucsesful again.
