    In 1788, The British Convicts arrived because the jails in England were too overcrowded and They came by the First Fleet. While in Australia, the convicts were forced to provide enough food to support the population as well as to build roads, bridges, houses and factories.

    From the 1850's German settlers began arriving in Australian colonies, They moved to regions suitable for wheat and dairy farming, the planting of vineyards and wine making. They made close communities making the dry environment into good farming land.

    In the early 1850s, many Chinese Immigrants came to Australia as labourers working as Shepards, Cooks and Gardeners.
    By 1855, abot 31,000 Chinese Immigrants arrived on the gold fields. Jealousy arose sometimes due to the success of the Chinese People.

    It was not until the Victorian Gold Rush in 1850 that Spanish Immigrants began to arrive in Victoria.
    Some Spanish refugees came to Victoria due to the Spanish civil war.

    By the 1850's hundreds of Italian Immigrants came to Victoria by the Gold Rush but when the gold ran out some of the Italian Immigrants left Victoria to work in other parts of Australia. The Immigrants that stayed in Victoria, established small agricultural communities in Victoria.

    In 1860, The Sugarcane plantation began and most initial Sugar cane plantations were privately owned and the owners didn't have enough money to pay for Australian wages without putting their sugar cane on the international market. So between 1863 and 1904 around 62,000 pacific Islanders (kanakers) immigrated here to work on the sugarcane plantations.

    The Afghans, helped construct the overland telegraph line and inland railways, took part in exploration expeditions , and supplied mining towns and pastoral stations.

    By 1857, over 1,000 French Immigrants lived in Victoria and over the decades, they would go on to become land owners, merchants and wine makers.

    The Irish Potato famine of 1840s cause large numbers of Immigrants to migrate due to poverty and difficult living conditions. They worked in Victoria as whalers, fisherman and farmhands in townships as labourers and factory workers. A few became property owners and professionals.
