    Union General Grant was shot at the Siege of Petesburg. The shooter was an unknown Confederate. The bulleet hit right at Grant's heart and there was no chance of survival. He was found on the ground dead minutes after the shot. The battle was still sucessful by the lead of General George G. Meade.

    Confederates Win Battle of Richmond, VA
    General Lee's army was expecting Union soldiers less than 50 miles away from Richmond. The Union was led by General George Meade When the Union troops arrived they fought hard and broke through the Confederate troops into the capital city. The battle was intense and soon the Union was outnumbered by the Confederates. The Union started to back down and eveentually retreated from the battle.

    General Meade Surrenders to Confederate.
    At the Appotmattox Courthouse, General Meade formal surrendered to the Confederate. The Union could fight no more. They had lost too many men and supplies. The Union had no hope left. The officials met a house owned by Wilmer McLean and signed legal documents which would decide the fate of the world. The countries deciede to stay seperate as the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. Slavery will be abolished in the US and would remain in the CS.

    General Lee Elected President.
    The Confederate States of America decided to use April as election month. The elections were done in the same way as the United States. Robert E. Lee was running against the 1st CS President Jefferson Davis. Lee won by a landslide and was inaugurated on the 4th of May as the 2nd President of the Confederate States of America.

    President Abraham Lincoln dies at age 58 on his birthday. He was sick with a rare disease called the Marfan Syndrome. This weakens the body's connective tissue. He died in his room in the Wh ite House peacefully. His funeral took place in the White House East Room. It was attended by the public and later a private ceremony was held.

    Because of Lincoln's death, Andrew Johnson, Lincoln's vice President is sworn into office. He will continue his term for two more years.

    The Confederate border states are worrying about their slaves running away. Almost every slaves iis planning to cross the border to the Union. Plantations and big businesses are closing down because of the loss of slaves. The Union is starting to help those slaves settle down in their country. Officials have decided to build a wall at the border and tighten up security. The wall, security, and supplies have costed a great amount of money. Finall it has been completed.

    The US has released a decision that states it will not take part in a war against Germany. After the US lost the Civil War and formed a Confederate States of America, the US is no longer a strong world power. It took a long time to "reconstruct" the country after the war and fears destruction again. It does not believe the war against Germany is its war to fight.

    During the beginning of the war the countries were fighting evenly. Eventually the Central Powers outnumbered outnumbered the Allied Powers. If the US joined there might have been hope for the Allies. After four brutal years of war, the Central Powers have rised as victors.

    King Wilhelm III crowned German Emperor and King of Prussia
    KIng Wilhelm II died of old age on March 14 at age 80. The next day, his son Friedrich Wilhelm Victor August Ernst was crowned. The royal ceremony was conducted in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailes, similar to his father. The event was attended by Presidents of many other foriegn countries and crowds gathered around the palace to see their new king.
