Muhammad was visited by an overpowering presence in a mountatin cave. God told Muhammad to recite his ways and teachings.

It was several years before Muhammad could tell people about his encounter. He shared his teaching to his tribe verse by verse. At first he and his followers were ridiculed and physically attacked then the leaders of Mecca tried to assassinate him.

In 622, Muhammad and his followers traveled to Yathrib. Yathrib soon to became known as Medina, the cirt of the prophet. For the next six years he stayed there building the first Muslim community.

Early skirmishes lead to three major battle between the Meccans and Muslims. The first, in March 624, the muslims won. The second, in March 625, the muslims lost. The third, in 627, they outlasted. In March 628 a treaty was signed by both sides.

Muhammad and the muslims marched into Mecca and were joined by tribe after tribe. They entered with no bloodshed and eventually the Meccans joined.

Three months after his last pilgrimage to Mecca, Muhammad suffered illness and died in June 8, 632
