HRC Timeline

  • Politics

Once Steve graduated from the University Of Minnesota, he got involved in local state politics. He feared that his sexuality was incompatible with public life. He thought that he needed to "stop being gay" to stay in politics. He relived that being gay isn't actions but a state of mind. This is important to the timeline because we get to see what made Steve want to start HRC.
  • Human Right Campaign

HRCF was the first national gay rights political action committee made in 1980. HRCF started to save up money. They also were educating people on the subject to get more people into the movement.
  • First Lage Fund-Raiser

    First Lage Fund-Raiser
In September 1982, HRCF held its first large fund-raiser dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. At the fund-raiser, the former Vice-President Walter Mondale was there. Having the former Vice-President would help get more people around the world and most importantly in America to go and see and hear what HRCF is trying to do.
  • Makeover

    Makeover
In 1995, HRCF rebranded to expand programs, research, and communications. They dropped the F in HRCF and changed it to HRC. With the name change, they changed the logo as well. Rebranding was a good choice to show they are moving forward.
  • Let's Make a Change

    Let's Make a Change
In 2006, the HRC made a statement, " an America where GLBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work, and in the community." HRC counted close to 600,000 members. The fact they have more than 600,000 members now is crazy.
  • Today

    Today
HRC has made many more changes. They now have articles on how to come out to your family, what sexuality means, how to be great allies, and many other topics. They could change millions of times but one thing will always stay the same, they still want equal rights for everyone in the LGBTQ+ and will fight for them over and over.
