On the 1st of Janurary the Commonwelth of Australia is born. Colonies, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia Queensland and South Australia join together in federation. In the 1901 Constitution states decided that 'Aboriginal Natives' are not incounted as Australian citizens. Numerous colonial armies combine to form Australian defence. The immigration restriction act, nicknamed the White Australian Polocy.

The Commonwelth of Australia franchise act is passed, giving the vote to all british subjects over the age of 21who have lived in Australia for at least six months. this right to vote excludes women but not Aboriginals.

The high court of Australia is now opened.

The federal government sets up court for arguments between workers and employers. It is called the Consiliation or the Arbitration Commission.

Melbourne and Sydney were the first capital cities to be linked by telephone. The consiliation and arbitation commission makes a hostoric ruling the workers in a factory must be paid a fair amount, and decided what this amount should be.
