The War in The Air
The war in the air was a war that icluded alot of dog fights. not just dog fights there were bombings, and when there are bombings there are casualties. The candian pilot who shot down Manfred 'The Red Baron' was our good trooper Von Richthofen. They say the average lifespan of a pilot would only be three weeks. Even though the percentage of candians were only 40 percent we still did good. -
The Halifax Explosion
An explosion happened on this day including the Monte Blanc and the Norweigan vessel ship collided and caused a big explosion. There was a fire on board and it caused a cataclysmic explosion. About 2000 people died in this horrific accident. also 9000 were injured. This explosion is known to be the biggest man-made explosion. -
Vimy Ridge
The british and the french tried to catch the vimy but the canadians had won it in one day. This is the battle that canda had become a nation. 20000 casualties and 5000 dead. This war was fought with the canadian general Arthur Currie. -
Winnipeg Strike
This disaster took a time of six weeks. The casualties were oneman died and 30 were injured and wounded. -
Prohibition
This is a law forbidding any selling or drinking of any sort of alcohol. Some canadians sold it illegally to use for medicational uses. They sold it illegally to what they called 'dry' americans,this was called rum-running. Then the 'dry'americans sold it which is 'bootlegging'. -
Jazz Age (Entertainment)
Jazz age was a combination of european and western african musical traditions. For example louis armstrong a famous jazz and radio artist. Louis's music spread wide and far over the world yet it lost population ion 1926 it still is being listend to today. -
Black Tuesday
New york stock exchange was crashed that day october the 29th 1929. It made many families lose their fortunes. Banks stopped accepting customers from depositing any of their stocks or giving out any loans. The bank couldnt give anything back to the depositiers it was indeed a crash. -
The Great Depression
The great depression was a terrible time where people would do anything for money. It was a difficult time for finding jobs. When people had mo jobs they couldnt pay their rent or bills. When that happens they lost everything. -
The Ottawa Trek
The on-to -ottawa trek was considered a solution to the great depression. Men at this time got sick of being in relief camps, so they decided to climb onto trains. One of their stops was unfortunely in a riot which then got named the regina riot. -
The Gey Owl
a native man who became a famous author and lecturer and wildlifeand conservation. he caused a sensation in britain when he lectured in his native clothing. when he died, people were shocked and angry to dicover he was really a man named archibald belaney. -
Dunkirk
This attack Hitler used the new blitzkreig to attack france.this method consumed all of their weaponry to take out as many troopers as possible. The troops had to be evacuated to britain. Defeated but considered a miracle. -
The Dieppe Raid
The location was near the east coasts of france. 6100 and more than half were canadian soldiers. The casualties were 1000 canadians wounded 2000 surrendered and became P.O.W.S.(prisoners of war). About 900 were killed and 2200 and returned from home to england. -
D-Day
11770 went to war and 5436 had died or got injured. They arrived at 6:31am and started dropping their bombards onto the omaha beach. the attack was the britains,united states and canadians against the germans. The attack took place in Normandy France. -
The Liberation of The Netherlands
canadians moved north to liberate the netherlands. Canada suffered 7600 cvasualties. This was also considered a defining moment for canada because we saved their land. Also the netherlands still sends us tulips and care for our soldiers graves. -
The Ortona Battle
This was the battle that the canadians came up with a new teqnichue called mouse-holing. This battle lasted around eight days . The casualities were we lost 1375 canadian soldiers. This battle was fought against the germans and canadians.The end result was a canadian victory.
