This is decline for Canada because approximately 6500 were wounded and over 2000 died. Not only this but the Germans introduced a new set of weapons called poison gas which gave them an advantage in the war. -

First glance of gender equality and realization that women are just as important as men. This is progress for Canada because it was the first time women had a say in politics. Women were acknowledged as equals and they fought for equality in jobs as well. -

This battle was a disaster for the Canadian army because many of their troops were from Newfoundland and Labrador and most of them were killed in battle. The regiment did not advance more than 11 km because the British troops failed to take out the German soldiers in the trenches and in the barbed wire of No Man's Land. As a result, the casualties were significant and it weakened the Canadian and British forces. It is considered the most disastrous battle that Canada took part in. -

This was progress for Canada because they got to show the world that they were a military power and that they did not need Britain to protect them. The Canadian forces banded together and they overcame German attacks to win the battle. This helped lead to Canada to its independence in later years. -

Conscription had mixed effects on Canada. It divided the country because English Canadians approved of it but French Canadians didn't. Borden's decision affected Canada for many years because the tensions between English speaking Canadians and French speaking Canadians is still problematic to this day. Conscription had a huge part in this division. However, the conscription bill also allowed Canada to get more military men and after so many died, the conscripts helped win the war. -

The accomplishments that they had during the war would help them gain independence from Britain and they were now considered no longer Britain's child but their equal. -

He also put Canada on the map in terms of science and countries around the world now recognized that Canada was a force in the science field. -

Constitutional case in the courts that found women were eligible to be part of the Senate in Canada and this started to change the participation of women in politics. It was started by 5 women walking to Ottawa in protest that women were not considered people. This was progress for Canada because women gained a more dominant role in the country and it signaled the beginning of women being recognized as equals within society and earning more money in jobs.
