Mexican General Santa Anna outnumbered Texans and invaded the Alamo. Texans decided they could no longer live under Santa Anna's ruling and declared the Republic of Texas.

The Mexican-American War was a result of America's desire to move further westward. It officially ended in 1848 with the Treaty of Hidalgo leading Mexico to give up a significant amount of land.
