    The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the U.S. It cost America $15 million to pay off the French in this deal.
  • Lewis & Clark Expedition

    Lewis & Clark Expedition
    Due to the Louisiana Purchase the U.S. had a lot of land to explore. President Jefferson sent Lewis & Clark to navigate and record the areas West of the Mississippi River.

    War of 1812
    War between U.S. and Great Britain over British violations of maritime rights. End of federalist political party.
  • Public Railroad System

    Public Railroad System
    The first public railroad system began construction in Baltimore and Ohio. It was important for westward expansion and the Industrial Revolution.

    The Indian Removal Act was supported by President Andrew Jackson which was the forced removal and relocation of Native Indians. As a direct result thousands died. The U.S. was not equipped to handle such a move.

    Mexican General Santa Anna outnumbered Texans and invaded the Alamo. Texans decided they could no longer live under Santa Anna's ruling and declared the Republic of Texas.
