    The signing of the declaration is influential because it declared our independance from Britan. It showed that we wanted to be our own country. It started all the actions that led up to us being an independant nation.

    Siege of Vicksburg, MS

    The Siege of Vicksburg contributed to the Union's turning point in the CIvil War. In the Siege Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant held the city of Vicksburg, the last Southern stronghold on the MS River, at siege for weeks. This is influencial because after the city was taken the Union had control of the entire MS River and split the Confederacy in two.

    Abraham Lincoln's Assassination.
    While watching a play at Forde's Theater in Washington D.C, Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth. After Booth killed Lincoln he jumped onto the stage and broke his leg. He was caught and killed a few days later. This event greatly changed American History. After Lincoln was killed President Andrew Johnson was much more Lineient to the South and REconstruction did not go the way Lincoln had planned.

    The transcontinental railroad was finish may 10, 1869. This railroad conected the Eastern and Western U.S. This is very important because it allowed the U.S. to transfer goods across long distances. Without the railroad our country would not have progressed as much as it did. Many immigrants were invloved in the construction of the railroad and many also died.
