    Hill Fort
    Hill forts were the first and basic castles. They were made out of stone, wood and earth soil/gravel. One of their features was that they had a ditch in it. The other feature was that they were on top of a hill which gave them sight from far away.They were not very strong but they were the first and basic.

    Motte and Bailey

    Motte and Bailey
    The motte and bailey was the second type of castle to be built. They obviously consisted of a Motte and a Bailey. The bailey was like storage, they stored animals and people lived in there. The Motte was like a mountain and you could see things, it was like a watchtower. To give protection the Motte and Bailey castle would be surrounded by a ditch , normally filled with water.

    Stone Keep
    Stone keeps were made out of stone and they were very solid. It offered more defence than the Motte and Bailey and they had thick walls. They had a keep and that was how the stone keep got its name. The stone keep also has a drawbridge.

    Concentric Castle
    The Concentric Castles were the best against attacks. The main defensive feature was its walls, the walls were really high, making archers to miss alot. The castle would be sorrounded by a moat and would be able to enter through a drawbridge.

    Fortifield Manor Houses
    Fortifield Manor Houses had high walls and towers. They were constructed out of brick and did not offer much protection but it was very comfortable to live in. These were for the rich and was the closest thing to house.
