    1492: Conquest of Paradise

[October 10th, 1492 is the day Columbus "discovered" America.] FACT CHECK: [In the film they they left out the part where Columbus is the bad guy that stole the natives land and then took all the credit.] CONNECTION: [ A connection I made is that white men still take credit for things that people or other backgrounds did.] RATING: ⭐ [It was quite boring, the only parts that were interesting was in the beginning before everyone started becoming bigger jerks.]
  • 12 Years a Slave

    12 Years a Slave

EVENT: In 1852 Solomon Northup returned home to his family. FACT CHECK: This movie seems a bit inaccurate, I feel like they could've taken out some more boring bits. It also feels like they just put big actors in and ran out of time. CONNECTION: Even in today's society free people can be taken and treated horribly and ripped away from their families, like in the Ukraine and like ICE. RATING: ⭐ ⭐ This movie is good but made me feel uncomfortable with how the women were treated.
  • Avalon

EVENT: The grandparents came to America in 1419, the grandpa described it as the most beautiful place. FACT CHECK: I feel like this movie is pretty accurate to what it would be like living in that time and being immigrant jews. CONNECTION: Bad stuff like getting your store burnt down and going a little insane happen a lot today but there isn't that family value anymore. RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ This was my favorite movie so far, I don't know why but it was the most interesting. (Photos won't save)
  • The Lost Battalion

EVENT: The movies event is during WW1 in the middle of battle. FACT CHECK: I think this is pretty accurate to WW1, I wasn't alive but I think this is a good depiction. CONNECTION: Well I mean I think the connections obvious to wjats going on with Russia and Ukraine, many people have already said this could lead to WW3 because we never learn from our mistakes and by we I mean our leaders. RATING: 3 stars; This movie was pretty boring and they killed my favorite character.
  • The Grapes of Wrath

    The Grapes of Wrath

EVENT: Tom Joad and his family leave Oklahoma to find work in California. FACT CHECK: I think its pretty accurate to how it would've been in real life going through the great depression. CONNECTION: In a way its opposite of how life is rn, there's jobs everywhere and a lot of places are hiring for above minimum wage. RATING: (the website doesn't work on my phone) 3 stars; I didnt like this that much because the characters just annoy me but it makes sense since this movie is so old.
  • Selma

EVENT: Martin Luther King Jr. goes to Selma for the voting rights act led by King, Williams and Lewis. FACT CHECK: The article i read said that the movie was 100% accurate and with what I read about it, that seems pretty true. CONNECTION: People today are still fighting for their rights similar to this, with innocent black people getting killed by our "protectors" everyday. RATING: (3 stars) Since I didn't watch the movie I'm putting it at three stars.
