The vote is indirect at the provincial level. Choose between 1 and 4 representatives -
Direct Vote
The direct vote is created for all elections as a consequence of the Constitution of 1853 when General Obando sanctioned the Law of June 16, 1853. The winner is defined by majority. There are 71 House Representatives and 24 Senators. A rudimentary identity card model was adopted in order to guarantee the non-impersonation of citizens' personalities in elections. The card was only valid for voting. It was called the voter's title. -
Provinces to States
There are 65 House Representatives and 27 Senators. It passes from Provinces to States. General Mosquera, for the vote in the Ibagué Convention of that year, ordered that each citizen registered in the voters list be given “... a printed qualification document stating that they can read and write, the name , age, state and residence of the voter for at least 10 days in the Federal District ... ”. Without this document you could not vote. -
New Costitucion
A new Political Constitution is drawn up. The indirect voting system for the President and direct voting for municipal councilors, deputies and voters is maintained. -
Direct Voting For Corporations
The vote is direct for corporations, but indirect for the President and Senate. It goes from States to Departments and 67 Representatives are elected to the House and 33 senators. -
Voting exception
Voting is direct for everything except the Senate. 90 Representatives are elected to the House and 33 senators. -
Two Types Of Choices
Law 85 of December 31,1916 is issued. It is indicated in this Law that there are two types of elections:direct and indirect:direct elections for Municipal Councilors, Deputies to the Departmental Assemblies, Representatives to Congress and President of the Republic; Senators are elected by indirect elections. Likewise, article 302 establishes the daily meeting of the jurors for as long as necessary, for the signing of the ballots, and the operating expenses of the electoral juries were regulated -
Identification Card
Law 31 of November 12, 1929. In article 6, it was provided. "The Electoral Jury will issue to every citizen registered in the permanent registry where the names of the voters are recorded, a citizenship card that is at the same time a voter title, signed by the President and the Secretary of the Jury. In said identification card will be stated: the affiliation of the individual and a photographic copy, stamped by the stamp of the office that issues it; the signature of the interested party -
Direct Voting For Everything
Until 1942 the indirect election of the Senate was held and since 1947 this election is direct for all positions. In 1933, the majority election was completed in the case of corporations and the quotient was passed. In 1935 115 representatives and 36 senators were elected. For 1949, 131 representatives and 63 senators were elected. -
Voting For Women
Through Legislative Act number 3 of August 26, 1954, reforming the National Constitution, women are granted the active and passive right to vote. The National Constituent Assembly granted women the right to elect and be elected. -
Women's First Time Voting
On December 1, 1957, women go to the polls for the first time in the plebiscite called by the National Front for the ratification of the Law that allows them to vote. -
First Popular Election
La primera elección popular de alcaldes se realizó el 13 de marzo de 1988, cuando 11.700.000 colombianos estaban habilitados para elegir a 1.009 mandatarios municipales. Según el Acto Legislativo 01 de 1986 la primera elección de Alcaldes tendría lugar el segundo domingo de marzo de mil novecientos ochenta y ocho (1988). -
New Costitucion
Se redacta una nueva constitución en la cual se determina separar las elecciones regionales de las legislativas, que se celebrarán cada cuatro años. Así mismo se estableció la Elección Popular de Gobernadores. Antes eran designados por el Presidente. -
