    IATA stand for International Air Transport Association its aim is to promote safe, regular and economic air travel. IATA is an International trade body representing the interesting of more than 80% of the world’s major airline. This has had an effect on the tourism industry since it protects people when flying therefore more people will travel via air.
  • ABTA Code of Conduct

    This was created to govern the relationships between members and their customers. It was provided by the article of association and provides customers with:
    -High standard service- Fair terms of trading
    - Accurate information
    - Guaranteed complaint handling. An example of a code of conduct is Travel Agent Code of Conduct and Tour Operator Code of Conduct.
  • ABTA

    ABTA stands for Association of British Travel Agents its aim it was developed in 1950 in 1955 it merged with ITA then in 2008 it merged with FTO. Its aim is to help customers have confidence in travel experience and is committed to following a strict code of conduct. It provides schemes of financial protection and a course of redress if something goes wrong.

    In 1960 working patterns have changed since now people have 2 weeks holiday therefore people have time to go on holiday. Also the technology has changed the working patterns since now people are able to work from home so there income depends on how much work they get done.

    FCO stands for The Foreign Common Wealth Office it is a part of the UK government. The FCO is responsible for the protecting and promoting UK interest worldwide, it is also responsible for safeguarding Britain’s national security by countering terrorism and weapons proliferation and working to reduce conflict. This has benefited the industry since it has made travelling safer for the customers.

    This act provide for the establishment of a British Tourist Authority and Tourist Boards for England, Scotland and Wales with responsibility for promoting the development of tourism to and within Great Britain; to provide for the giving of financial assistance out of public funds for the provision of new hotels and the extension, alteration and improvement of existing hotels; to enable provision to be made for the registration of hotels and other establishments.

    This had an impact on the development of tourism since it created different tourist boards for example Visit Britain Tourist Board, Visit Wales Tourist Board, Visit Scotland Tourist Board. This had a postive effect on the industry since then people where able to find information out about the destination.

  • ATOL

    ATOL stands for Air Travel Organisation it is run by the CAA. This legislation was created to protect people from losing their money; this can be from either a package holiday, flights or car hire. This has had an effect on the industry since it has made people feel more comfortable traveling abroad because they are now protected.
  • CAA

    The CAA stands for Civil Aviation Authority it is part of the governing body and over sees aviation activity. Its responsibility includes
    - the safety and management of air space
    - economic regulation
    - enforcement of consumer protection rules such as problems like cancel flights
    - enforcement of regulations and requirements such as transporting dangerous objects and good by air.
    This has had an effected on the industry since it has created safer travel.
  • Health and Safety

    Health and Safety Act protects people against risks at work. This means that employees need to provide a high standard of health and safety conditions in the work place. It has had the biggest effect on the travel and tourism industries since now people have to follow the Health and Safety Act.
  • Unfair Contract Term

    This protects the consumer from unfair terms and conditions they make with traders. This act allows consumers to challenge the terms in any contract they’ve dinged. This has had an effect of the industry since now when people book holiday they have to agree to the term the conditions.

    This is an independent tour operator within a small family business. A positive about this company is that they have been in the business for a while therefore they have experience, although you cannot find them when booking in a big company.

    Although it may seem strange to think washing machines have had an effect on the tourism industry it has for instance because people now have different appliances that help decrease the time that they spend doing the housework or the dishes it increases the amount of leisure time they have. With more leisure time people are able to do more domestic travel.

    Its aim is to protect people who are buying a package holiday for example making sure that the organiser is responsible for any elements of the package if they were to fail and that they provide clear contract terms. This has had an effect on tourism since more people where buying package holidays because it was safer.

Budget Airlines such as easyjet has helped the industry since by having low price flights it would mean that people would not need to spend as much money on a flight and therefore be able to travel further or more often.
  • Disabilites Discrimination

    This stopped organisations discrimination against people with disabilities, for example having wheel chair access in planes and brail so people who are unable to walk or see can have access to the same facilities as other people.
  • Emloyee Right Act

    This allows every employee to have a contract that confirms that you work with the organisation and the terms and conditions and the rights of that employee. It also protects the employee from being bullied or harassed and provides a number they can ring to talk to about these problems anonymously.

    People income has changed in the last 50 years since now people have more disposable income and are able to enjoy holidays, short breaks and day trips because they have the money to do so. However now because of the resection a lot of people are being made redundant therefore they don’t have as much income which means they have less disposable income therefore they are not going on as many holidays as they did in the past.
