This case allowed for students with disabilities to be moved out of a public classroom settings. This was important because it started the allowance for separate classrooms if the child with a disability needs the separation. It also is applicable because it paved the way for those with disabilities to gain rights as a movement. -
This was the first advocacy group for children with disabilities. This is now one of the largest special education groups. This group was important because it ensured that all children with special needs received FAPE. FAPE is the right to free appropriate public education meaning the educational program will be unique to meet the students needs and will help prepare then to further their education. -
National educational law for equal opportunity for all students, it is to raise the academic achievement of struggling learners and for those who face challenges such as a disability, mobility problems, poverty, etc. Its important because in 2010 it was changed to Every student succeeds act. Tis allowed for those with disabilities to be placed in to programs to help them succeed based on their disability and needs. -
The U.S district court of Columbia ruled that it is unlawful for the D.C board of education to deny those with mental and learning disabilities access to publicly funded educational opportunities. This was important because it allowed those with special needs the opportunity to get an education even if they were unable to pay for it. This allowed for them to receive federal financial assistance. -
Section 504 added protection from discrimination of special needs and those with disabilities in organizations /the workplace. This law includes FAPE and LRE which makes students eligible when they have a physical or mental disability. This was important because this changed the way if employers were denying or excluding individuals due to having a disability. It allowed those to be able to have equal opportunities in the work force and well as to participate and have access to program services. -
Federal law put in place so that those with physical abilities could have appropriate educational services at school. This included children between the ages of 3 and 21. This would allow for an educational plan that a parent would also add input to. This was important because it allowed for parents to me more involved if needed they also needed to be informed before any changes to their child's plan was finalized or put on their child's records. -
This was a huge movement because it included autism, blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic, health impairments, specific learning, tbi's, visual impairment, and speech or language disabilities. This allowed for any individual who experienced any of these disabilities to receive accommodations, services, assistance, and modifications, transportation needs, and etc this even covered for adults not just children.
