  • First Public Special Education Class

    First Public Special Education Class
    Many teachers started noticing the increase of students with disabilities in their classrooms. They demanded for special needs classes and teachers to teach those students. It was in Rhode Island where the first special education class was created.
  • Elementary and secondary Educational Act

    Elementary and secondary Educational Act
    This Act was signed by president Lyndon B. Johnson. It granted schools the ability to set up special programs designed to academically help students with disabilities, and in low income households.
  • Rehabilitation Act (Section 504)

    Rehabilitation Act (Section 504)
    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act was in put in place to protect the rights of those with disabilities. It protected them from discrimination in any place that was funded by the government this included schools.
  • EAHCA

    EAHCA
    The Education of all Handicapped Children Act mandated for all public schools receiving funds from the government to grant equal educational access to people with disabilities and it also mandated for schools to offer a free meal to them.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Act

    Individuals with Disabilities Act
    This law prohibits the discrimination of individuals with disabilities in public and private places including schools. It also imposed that there should be proper accommodations set in place for people with disabilities.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    This Act was put into place to help and improve the education of underprivileged students and students with disabilities and help close the achievement a gap.To achieve this they put into place special assessments, new requirements for standards, and parent involvement.

  • Assistive Technology Act

    Assistive Technology Act
    The Act signed by W.Bush allowed funding for technology that aided students with disabilities. This helped many students with disabilities who didn't have the money to buy their own devices and helped improve their day to day lives.

  • Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act

    Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act
    This Act was Signed by president Bush and it mandated that all special needs classes be legally taught by teachers who are highly qualified.
