In 1990 there was a law enacted known as the Americans with Disabilities Act, and it prohibits discrimination in the private sector and protects equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities -
In 1990 they also established Individuals with Disabilities act, which created person first language, meaning, you acknowledge the person with a disability, rather than identifying them with their disability. -
