    Protests, rising and falling leaders, and many battles between the U.S. and Nicaragua took place during this time, eventually leading to the U.S. leaving Nicaragua.

    The Nicaraguan Revolution

    A group called the FSLN got the support of most of the Nicaraguan people to overthrow the Somoza rule, in 1979 they succeeded, and overthrew the Somoza family. However, in 1989, the Tela accord was signed, leading to the demobilization of both armies and ending the chaos.

    A huge earthquake hits Nicaragua killing 6,000 and injuring 20,000, Somoza activates martial law and U.S. Marine forces are sent to make sure he stays in line.
