    The first theatre productions were from the Romans and the Greeks back in 500BC, if you think about it, the concept of theatre hasn't changed at all. technology has effected the way it is produced however.

  • First newspaper comes out

    The first ever newspaper (in English) was the London Gazette. It was released in 1666, about a year after the plague which happened in England (giving them some stories to write about).
  • The first magazine

    There were many magazines in the 1600's but it wasn't until 1731 when we got an introduction to the first general interest magazine- (The Gentlemen's Magazine).
  • The First Cinema

    The first cinema was opened by John. P Harris in which he named it the Nickelodeon. By 1908 there were thosands of storefront Nickelodeons across North America
  • The First Radio/ Radio Broacast

    The first radio news program was broadcast by the station 8MK. It wasn't until 1922 when regular wireless entertainment broadcasts began to come into play, and up until world war two, 80% of England had a radio. This helped the government to give hope to the population and keep them fighting through the World Wars.
  • Introduction to Television

    TV's started getting into the population's homes in 1947, just after World War Two. By 1998, 98% of the US population had at least one TV set in their homes and later on the world adapted to this figure too.
  • Blockbuster

    Blockbuster enabled the audience to rent/buy films for different prices. So instead of people going to the cinema, they could justput a cd in a cd player and watch their favorite movies on their sofa. However Blockbuster failed to keep up with technology and the rise of streaming, meant that people couldn't be bothered to walk all the way to a Blockbuster store to buy a cd. Funny enough, Netflix asked Blockbuster to buy them in the lat 1990's but the Blockbuster CEO just laughed in their faces.
  • The introduction to the internet

    The 1990's showed the introduction to the internet. This would be accessible to anyone with a windows computer and enables platforms of social interaction and entertainment advertising to come into place.
  • Netflix

    Netflix enables consumers to watch films/series at home, on their mobile phone/computer/laptop/tablet/tv etc. This has opened up a new world into to consumption of films. Now more and more people are staying at home to watch films instead of going to the cinema and paying for every film you watch (and also paying for popcorn - which is super expensive). It came out in 1997, but didn't gain popularity till the 2010's, when it contributed to Blockbuster going bust.
  • Illegal Streaming/ Downloading

    Illegal streaming/ downloading is a big problem nowadays. With the continuous development in technology, more people are able to watch films without paying for anything. This has been a problem since the 2000's and is still a very hard problem to tackle.
  • Youtube

    YouTube came out in 2004 where, at first, wasn't very popular, but now it is the most popular app/site in the world.
  • The First Apple Iphone

    The first ever iPhone brought a whole new conception to technology and media consumption. It enabled people to do a variety of things computer/phone would do all on one device.
