    Hammurabi's Code

    Hammurabi set his code in place in 1771, in the ancient city of Susa. Hammurabi’s code was a collection of 282 rules all with fines and punishments. Hammurabi’s code was carved onto a black stone pillar and placed in the center of each major village. Some examples of some laws would be 6. If a man has stolen goods from a temple or house, he shall be put to death; and he that has received the stolen property from him shall be put to death.

    . 229. If a builder builds a house for a man and does not make its construction sound, and the house which he has built collapses and causes the death of the owner of the house, the builder shall be put to death. Hammurabi’s code impacts todays legal system with regards to punishable crimes. Hammurabi’s code set a foundation to use our moral in how serious a punishment should be based on a crime.

    Justinian's Code

    Justinian's code was created in 527 by Justinian I, in Italy. Justinian created new laws to give his people more rights and to make the law fair to everybody. The Justinian code even gave rights to women and slaves which was unlike any other law or code at the time. An example of a law would be If one has been called to witness, or hold the scales, unless he gives his testimony, let him be dishonored and incapable of further testimony.

    Common law was created during the Norman Conquest, in 1066. Common laws are laws created by judges. Common law is commonly known as case law common law in unwritten laws based on legal proceeding in court. We still use common law today in Canada's legal system.

    Great Law of Peace

    The great law of peace united five nations into the Iroquois Confederacy. The laws were first recorded not written, and then later transcribed into English. The great law of peace contained four main concepts; peace, equity, justice, and power. If any of the five nations tried to destroy the peace by violating the laws they were held guilty of treason and became enemies of the confederacy. The great law of peace helps to create an alliance in today's legal system.

    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was created in 1215 by Jhon king of England. The Magna Carta was the first document stating that the king was not above the law. It was created so the king would not exploit his power. A few examples of laws in the Magna Carta would be (20) For a trivial offence, a free man shall be fined only in proportion to the degree of his offence, and for a serious offence correspondingly, but not so heavily as to deprive him of his livelihood.

    (54) No man is to be arrested or imprisoned on account of a woman's appeal for the death of anyone other than her own husband. The Mangan Carta influenced today's legal system to become fair and that everyone is treated equally under the law. This has been developed through common law.

    The French Civil Code

    The French civil code was created by four eminent jurists. The French civil law codified several branches of law. The code also deprived women of their rights and made men stronger. The French civil code still largely remains in France. Examples of laws in the french civil code would contain laws related to family, property, and obligations. Punishment for crimes such as assault, treason, and murder would receive imprisonment and/or a fine.
