    Group homes were built for older people with no family. Orphanages housed young kids with no family care.
  • Great Depression

    Resulted in Americans being displaced, displaced, unemployed, homeless, or widowed without financial support.
  • The New Deal

    Franklin D. Roosevelt led this to focus on offering relief to those in need and recovery from current crisis.
  • Social Security Act

    This act provided for the retired elderly, widowed, dependent children of deceased workers, and the special needs
  • Mid 1900s

    The idea shifted, the general area from churches to the government.
