In 1890, Ernest Mercadier invented the headphone in his kitchen. He was known as the main inventor since he was the first to file a patent for it. He made it out of rubber, leather. copper and ceramics.

Around 2005, Bose came out with the first ever noise cancelling headphones. This became one of the defining feature of headphones because of its use in travel. Noise cancelling created a whole new meaning to headphones since a lot of people started purchasing them again for this feature. Headphones staying relavant
As earbuds started to become more popular, companies needed a way for headphones, so folding headphones were created. This made a way for headphones to stay in the sound business. Earbuds and headphones had a long standing rivalry that earbuds was about to win, but with the innovations of more compact headphones, Headphones stayed in the game.
