    British rule of Haiti begins

    In December 1492,the explorer Christopher Columbis and his men arrive in Haiti. They establish a fort that has an economy that runs of Slavery and trade with other countries. The slavery will end in the next 202 years after an unexpected revolt.

    The French occupation of Haiti begins

    In July 1534 the French arrived in Haiti a long time after the British did in December 1492, they did not improve on the issue of Slavery because it was used again and caused a revolt in April 1791. They continued to oppress the natives and other minorities.

    In April 1791 after decades of oppression since 1534 the slaves decided to break out and rebel against their owners amd took over the French government to control the whole country, After the French and British left knowing defiant responses of slaves would be a hostile issue.

    In May of 1803 the revolutionionary leaders of the slavery revolt tore up the old French flag. They made history by making a flag that still shows it's national independence pride of the Haitians even 5 years after it's earthquake changed things for ever.
  • The British leave Haiti

    In, 1804 after the revolution which defeated nepolean in Haiti the British left the country after the slavery had been abolished. The people then were overjoyed becuase of the oppression from the British with all the forced labour in the plantations.

    In the time between the early 18th century there was something called the unification of Hispaniolia. The country was run by the Spanish brefly between 1822 and 1844. In this time it was raletively stable but led to illegal land seizure at a terrible scale.

    In 1844 the Spanish were driven out by rebels, They believed in a country that was not run by oppresive occupiers. The revolt by the oppressed people gave them more freedom but hard times were what lay ahead for instability.

    In 1915, after the assasination of the old president the U.S. put troops in Haiti with Western peace keepers. This move was done to help the country after a leader was killed by a angry and deranged maniac wanting to destabalize their entire political stability.

    In November of 1915 ,the U.S. crushed the rebellion in Fort Rivere the rebels stronghold. They affected the opponents ability by shutting down the rebels and the opponents very brutally. They had caused assasinations of people between 1911 and 1915.
  • Mr, Lescot Vincent runs for third term

    In May 1934 the president who had been not in power for 10 years since 1931 came back. He tried to be honest but it turned out he had money to make sure he won and had an relation with a person who paid him to win in a fraudulant way.
  • U.S leaves Haiti after 29 years of Occupation

    In August 1934, after 29 years of Occupation the U.S pulled out of Haiti because rebels in the other part of the country wanted to oust them. So the rebels were crushed when the U.S, forced them to surrender due to security issues hurting the Americans interests.
  • Mr. Vincent is forced to resign over opponents arrests

    In January of 1941 the president Mr. Vincent arrested and imprisioned the editors of the marxist magazine The Beehive. This made people want to protest becuase they were shocked by the lac k of justice and freedom of expression in writing and magazines.
  • The National Assembly of Haiti is elected

    In May 1946 Haiti elected it's first National assembly it controled the election protocals and picked the president. This meant that the country had a stable and free government that was not a propped up coup run occupational force rule.
  • The new president is elected by the National Assembly

    In August 1946 the National Assembly elected it's second president Estimes .He changed the Haitian tradition and was responsible for real change after the U.S. occupation and brutality. He had support from the blacks in Northern Haiti to help the violence lower between the blacks and whites.
  • President Magloires is forced to quit

    In May 1950 the president was forced to quit because he jailed opponents and failed to stop corruption. He like many others ousted by protesters he fled to Jamaica to escape persecution and lived with the older presdents who were exiled. He left the rule to the army until the next election in september 1957.
  • Mr. Estime is forced to quit by the army over issues

    In May 1950 the President who has seemed tried to be honest about his affairs and honestly but tried to change the constitution to extend his rule. This made the army force him to quit and give power to them so they ruled until the new president came into power.
  • President Maglories is elected president

    In October 1950 after 9 years of military rule a new leader was elected. He was President Maglories who was after Vicent Estime who tried to meddle with the constitution was forced out 4 years in power from the army coup that year.

    in September of 1957 the presidential electons were held and Mr. Douvliar won.This was chaos becuase his two other opponents dropped out suspicious that the army was censoring the results. Mr. Dejoie went to Cuba with his supporters to evade capture from the dictator.

    In 1971 after his deah supporters mourned but exiles saw an opportunity to have the country become democratic. But soon after his son Baby Doc came into power and oppressed the critics and imprisoned activists like his father did.

    In the february of 1986 the pope visited Haiti and said the regime was brutal and inhmane. This fueled a secretly organized revolt that drove his son out of power and forced him to go to Cuba into exile.

    In The November of 1987 there was an election. It was cancelled becuase when the voters lined up to vote the army fired and killed 300 people for voting against the army run system.

    In that same year of November 1987 the new constitution was elected by the army in secret, In that same month the election was cancelled due to an army massacre of 200 to 300 voters as thay defied the military rule they were trapped in.

    In January 1988 the election was running normally there was no bloodshed. The election turn out was low at only 4%. the previous candadites had quit from the race so Leslie Magnot who won and was from the progressive Democrats rally party,

    In December 1990 there were elections , they were the first fair ones since the countries indepedance in 1804. This time no one was attacked or was frauduant.

    In September 1991, the Haitian army ousted the president. This was considered an illegal move becuase they had tried to oust him in January of that year. It was changed when the U.N. decided to reinstate president Astride in 1994 and gave the U.S. the right to uphold democracy.

    In the July of 1994 the U.N. passed a resolution that had the U.S. launch operation democracy. This condemed the army for ousting Astride and had him try to be reinstated but largely failed due to the authoratarian army power grabs.

    In February 2004 the U.S. ousted president astride of Haiti, the west was accused of kidnapping him but in 2000 4 years earlier the election had been called rigged by the U.S. and the U.K. because of evidence from the observers.

    On the 29th of February 2004 the coup was brought to an end when the U.S. put in an interum government that helped bring the situation back to an end. It was a move that brought regional calm.
