    The First Known College

    The University of Bologne is the oldest and longest-running college in the world. Students gathered and hired a "teacher" for a specific task or course, and evaluated them after their "term."
  • First Classroom

    Horace Mann is responsible for the modern version of a classroom setting. In Massachusetts in 1837, he was named Secretary of Education and set up his system for professional teachers teaching basic curriculum.
  • SAT and ACT

    The U.S. College Board developed these standardized tests in the early 1900's.
  • IQ test Invented

    Alfred Binet began developing tests of "intelligence" for the U.S. College Board.
