John Dight purchased Melbournes block 88 in 1839. It went 26 acres of land across the yarra river. He bought it in Sydney.

John Dight had a mill in cambell town, in new south wales. In april 1840.

The very first steamed powered milk was made in Melbounre in 1841.

John DIght used the river so he could power his milk, then john Dight constructed a weir.

The orignal mill in the river bank was not in use until 1888.
Then Yarra Falls Roller Flour Mills constructed a new mill and assoscited buildings at the site. The mill was then rebult in the same area using blue stones blocks from John Dights old mills. They re used the old material. This was sold in 1891 to the Melbourne Flour Milling Company. In 1909 it was destroyed by a fire. But the leftovers and what was still found can be seen and found today at Dights Falls. -
The deights falls goes back to the 1895 when it was orginally built so it could provide water for the Mlebounre Milling Company.

People have disocvered that Dights falls's weir has been worn out and they need to re build a new one, or make changes before it dies.
melbourne water is currently working on a NEW project to improve and create a new weir at Dights Falls. it will be around about the same height and shape to the other weirs.
this new weir will aslo feature a new fishways, it will open the yarra and let all the new miagroty fish.
