Vargas appealed to the huge numbers of workers mow crowding the cities. He tried to encourage manufacturing, so that Brazil would not be so dependent on foreign goods. During 1930s his dictatorship stifled democracy but brought in many changes, such as giving women voting right. -

In 1990, Brazil's democracy brought back, people can now vote for their president. -
