    While it's a new practice that same-sex couples are being granted the same form of marital recognition as commonly used by opposite-sex couples, there is a long history of recorded same-sex unions around the world. Nero, the Emperor of Rome, married two men in legal ceremonies. One of the spouses married, was accorded the same honours as an empress. Gay relationships were accepted and institutionalized in this time period.

    The Council of London was quite tolerant of homosexuality at the time. But they decided to tell the public that it was sinful, changing people's thoughts towards homosexuality. Many priests were homosexuals. That is possibly one of the reasons poeple's attitude changed towards homosexuality. This was a very important time. This shows that just a few people making assumptions, can change many people's attitude towards a subject.

    King Edward II of England was killed for being a homosexual. He was sodomized to death with a red hot poker. Edward II was a well-known homosexual. His lover's genitals were cut off before getting his head cut off.
