The gold rush began in 1851 in February when Edward Hardgroves found gold in Victoria. The gold rush lasted for about 10 years

The miners came to Australia when they heard out about the Gold Rush, 290,000 came from the British Isles 15,000 migrants from other European countries and 18,000 emigrated from the U.S. THe 290,000 were mostly convicts and settlers. They came by boat because there weren't many forms of transport back then. They came from England, Scotland, Wales, America, China and Germany. Because lots of people came it made Australia a very multicultural country.
