P: Annexation of Hawaii
This was annexed cause of the Crops and land already owned. And it was important because we were able to put a military base there and that now we would'nt have to pay tax for the imports coming from there. This was important because this became one of our largest sugar producers. -
P: Treaty of Paris
This is important cause it ended the Spanish American War and gave us Guam, the Philipines and Puerto Rico. Also this gave Cuba its indipendence. -
P: Theodore Roosevelt
As one of our favorite presidents Roosevelt also did so many things such as ending a Japanese war and complete the Panama Canal. He is important cause if the U.S didn't elect Roosevelt we wouldn't have some of the policies we have today. -
I: Platt Amendment
This was made so that after we took Cuba they wouldn't be able to make bad decisions, atleast not on their own. They weren't able to go into debt, make treaties with other contries and the U.S. could buy or lease lands for military bases we also had the right to intervene in cuban affairs. Important cause Cuba probably would have started another war if we didn't take control. -
P: Upton Sinclair (The Jungle)
This is important cause he exposed the practices in the American industries during the early 20th century. The book shows poverty, unfit living and working conditions. This book was made to try to help clean up and make the working conditions better. -
I: Pure food and drug act
This was More of a need than anything it was supposed to make meatpacking commpanies and farmacies put labels on all there food and madicine. Important to the people that are allergic to any products that weren't labeled. -
I: Dollar Diplomacy
This garanteed loans to other contries. After the war in Nicaragua we agreed to loan them enough to pay their debt and this let us take control of their banks and RR system. This is important cause one of the contries that we don't hate was in trouble and we acctually agreed to help. -
W: Start of WW1
This was when Franz Ferdinand was killed and Austria Hungry blamed it on Serbia. Russia made a deal to protect Serbia and everything went to crap from there on. This is important cause this is what started the great war. -
P: Panama canal
Before this was completed all the ships had to go around Cape Horn and that would take a long time and this was acctually started in 1881 but the Frech weren't man enough to take on the task so Theodore Roosevelt (as the man he is) took on the task and finished it himself. -
W: Lusitania
This was important cause this was America's last straw (this and the Zimmerman letter). We asked congress for a decleration of war on Germany. -
W: Selective service act
If this wasn't enacted America might not have had enough troops to fight for us. This made all of the people that didn't want to join, Join the army. -
W: Food Administration
This was to help people learn to produce their own food and save the rest for people over seas. Cause people in Europe were starving and Americans needed to help out. -
W: end of war
This is when the allies made there final push to end the war in Germany. The push started on october 17th and on november 11th. WE HAVE WON. -
I: Prohibition
This mad it illigal to sell, maufacture, and transport any alcohol. This was trying to improve moral rights. But it was repealed by the 21st amendment in 1933. This was important to all America cause of the moral inprovement for most of the U.S. -
I: Womens Sufrage
This was important to women cause they were finally able to vote, get high paying jobs ,and were able to do everything men were able to do in those days.
