    The Declaration of Independence
    A committee including Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, and Thomas Jefferson was appointed by congress to draft a Declaration of Independence. This document expressed the reasons for wanting to separate from Britain, and presented the principles that the United States would be built upon.

    Louisiana Purchase
    On April 30th of 1803, president Thomas Jefferson bought a large piece of land west to the US at that time. It was owned by the French; specifically Napoleon. The purchase doubled the size of the US.

    Lewis and Clark were 2 US citizens that were hired by Thomas Jefferson to go out together on an expedition to explore the new land that Jefferson purchased. Lewis recorded the animals and plants that they found and Clark made maps as they traveled along river and through mountains.

    The Texas Revolution was a war that started with the rebellion of colonists from the US and people living in Texas. They wanted to break away from Mexico and the laws that Mexico made. So, they started to rebel and fight for independence.

    The Donner Party was a family traveling to settle in the west. They went off of the trail that others were following because they thought that it would be faster. They were wrong and got lost. It was said to have snowed 5 feet so they ran out of food and supplies. They ate all of their animals and then, eventually, they had to start people.

    The California Gold Rush began when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news brought more than 300,000 people to California from the rest of the US and from other places around the world.

  • Attack at Pearl Harbor

    Attack at Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th of 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter jets are crashed into the American Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack lasted for 2 hours and the jets managed to destroy almost 20 American Naval vessels, 8 battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and 1,000 were wounded. After this, president Roosevelt declared war against Japan.

  • September 11 Attacks

    September 11 Attacks
    The the tragic day of September 11th, 19 terrorists from the group al-Qaeda hijacked 4 planes from New Jersey that were intended to go to California. Two of the planes were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and one other was crashed into the Pentagon. The fourth one was crashed into a field in Pennsylvania because the passengers fought the hijackers and flipped the plane. Both twin towers ended up collapsing and a total of 2,997 people were killed that day.
