Thomas Paine believe that all men, not just land owners, should have the right to vote. He believe that Americans should have their own destiny. Congress found a solution that would help all thirteen colonies, to have their own government. On June 7, Richard Herny Lee, came up with the idea to call the colonists "free and independent states." This is important to our nation because it was the day we became a free and have all equal rights.

President Lincoln din't know if he should go on with his plan, even if it might cause war. The Southern States took control of most federal forts. Lincoln decided to send supplies of to fort Sumter. Confederates decided to attack before the shipment came in. After 34 hours of shelling, Anderson surrendered. This was important to our nation because it was the day when we lost to the Confederates. Even though we didn't lose any people, it did in fact start the Civil War.

In 1950s, five schools cases from Delaware, Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington D.C. all came together as the Brown v. Board of Education. On May 17,1954, the Supreme Court made an ruling on Brown v. Board of Education. Segregate in schools and public facilities became illegal. This event is important to our nation because if our people never came together, schools still might still have the separated schools.

Elvis Presley was a musician. He was one of the greatest musician who created rock and roll. The 1900 was was all over rock and roll. 70% of all records were sold in the 1950s. But he died of a heart attack. Elvis was important to our nation because he brought us rock and roll and made music just for us.

Four terrorist got control of 4 airplanes and used them to attack important buildings in Washington D.C. 2 out of the 4 targeted two building, that made up the World Trade Center. Another one flew right in to the pentagon and the last hijacker flown right in to the Pennsylvania Field. This event is important to our nation because this tragedy brought Americans together. The nation got help from foreign leaders and citizens.

Many parts of the Gulf Coast and the city of New Orleans got flooded by rain and Hurricane Katrina. As people try to rebuild their town, Hurricane Rita hit the region with another blow. Not as powerful as Hurricane Katrina, but still damage enough of the region to have people move along the Gulf Coast. This event was important to our nation because of all the damage and lives the Hurricane took, made an impact on a lot of lives.
