This day in July the Declartaion of independence was created by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin to show that all men are created equal. -
The Cotton Gin
The Cotton Gin was a machine that made cleaning cotton much faster. It made cotton more profitable to grow and it became more profitable to own slaves. Without the cotton gin, a worker could clean about a pound of cotton per day, but once the cotton gin was invented it made cotton cleaning so easy that a worker could clean about 50 pounds a day. -
The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a major event in American history. It happened because of the French selling the Louisiana territory to the US. It held 827,000 square miles of the land laong the west of the Mississippi river which was sold for $15.000. -
The Lewis and Clark journey west
The Lewis and Clark journey began because of Thomas Jefferson asking two skilled men to explore the Louisiana territory. He specifically wanted these two explorers to find a water route from the Mississippi river to the Pacific ocean, make a new and accurate map, and to find the northwest passage. -
The Texas War for Independence
The Texas War of Independence started because Texas declared its independence from Mexico. -
The Mexican American War
The Mexican American war was when a Mexican unit crossed the Rio Grande and attacked the American patrol. Since that happened, Congress declared war two days later. -
The Donner party route
This day is when the Donner party took the left handed route of a trail because they believed it would be a shortcut to where they were going. Instead, it wasn't. They ended up having their wagon break so they stopped to repair it. While that was going on they spent the night in a shelter they had made. That night it had snowed 5 feet. They were trapped, cold, and hungry. The Donner party was so famous because they all became cannibals. Only one of them ended up surviving. -
The California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush began because a guy named James W. Marshall found gold.This finding of gold made a ton of people travel to California just for gold. People began to pay in gold in exchange for something else. It made some people very rich. -
Attack of Fort Sumter
On this day, Fort sumter was attacked by cnfederate troops which led to the beginning of the Civil War. The civil war was caused by many reasons but one of the main ones was slavery. Another was economic disagreements betwen noth and south, the election of abraham lincoln, and federal rights. -
The supreme case: Brown vs. Board of education
During this time there wa an arguemnt on segregation in schools. Linda Brown was a 7 year old african american, she was forced to travel all the way to her "black school" instead of being allowd to go to the "white school" close to her house.Her and her parents then sued the school so Linda would be allowed to attend. On May 17, 1945 a ruling was made in favor of Linda segregation in schools would become illegal. -
Death of Elvis
Today was the day of Elvis' death. He died froim cardiac arrythmia and also drugs, possibly obesity, and an irregular heartbeat. -
Gabby douglas' birthday (my inspiration)
Gabby dougles is an olympic gold medalist in gymnastics, she never gave up and inspires a ton of people around the world. She is going to be in the 2016 olympics because she wants to keep helping people know they can achieve their goals if they work hard and never give up. -
My Birthday
The day when I was born, I'm 14 years old and I do gymnastics, soccer, and track. I love doing active things, but I also like to relax inside. -
Terrorist attack of the twin towers
On this day, terrorists flew two planes into the twin towers. First one plane flew into the first tower, however everyone thought it might've just been an accident, though it instantly killed hundreds of people. They later realized it was a terrorist attack when the next plane struck the other tower. -
Brothers birthday
This was the dsy my brother was born, he's 9 years old and he has had a pretty big impact on my life. He loves basketball and pretty much anything active and outside.
