History Class Timeline 2014-2015

  • Declaration of Independence.

    Thomas Jefferson prepared most of the Declaration in two weeks. The committee wanted him to present it because 1) Jefferson is a great writer. 2) He was from Virginia. They knew that the Declaration wouldn't've happened without the support from Virginia. Two days later on July 4th, 1776, Congress adopted the document that proclaimed the independence. John Hancock was the first to sign the Declaration.The core idea of the declaration is based on John Locke.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    On April 30, 1803 the Louisiana Purchase was approved for $15 million. Three cents per acre. Thomas Jefferson bought it from Napoleon, the French leader.
  • Journey West - Lewis and Clark

    Thomas Jefferson assigned Lewis and Clark to explore the Louisiana Territory. Lewis was told to write down animals, plants, climate, etc. Jefferson told Clark to lead the way and to sketch - draw out a map. Clark made the first accurate map. On their way they came upon a Shoshone Indian, Sacagawea. Sacagawea helped translate Native and English, which made trade easier to do.
  • Texas War for Independance.

    They decided to declare Texas a free and indepednent repulic, The Texas army was free African - Americans, but it hardly existed. At the end all but seven Texans were deas and more than 1000 Mexicans had fallen
  • Prosperity and Panic

    Jackson left office proud, his popularity helped Van Buren win the presidency in 1836. A while after Buren took office, a panic of fear about the state of the economy. It spread throughout the country and it was known as the Panic of 1837.
  • The Donner Party.

    The Donner party was a group of people exploring and a snow storm hit. The storm had 5 feet of snow land on them. Weeks later the storm was still hitting and they ate all their food. When someone would die, they would cook them and eat them for food. They did NOT kill them, they waited till they were dead.

  • Mexican American War.

    A Mexican unit crossed the Rio Grande and ambushed an American patrol. Polk was furious and sent a rousing war message to Congress. Two days later Congress declared war.
    In May 1846, General Zachary Taylor led troops to Mexico.
  • California Gold Rush.

    This was a global act. People all around the world were moving to California for land. Chinese, Irish, Mexican, spanish, and French. They wanted the gold. Even though it was difficult to find it, they wanted that spring of hope. They wanted to have a chance to become wealthy.
  • Fort Sumter

    Lincoln faced a difficult descion, he had to choose between giving supplies and risked war, or surrendered the for and be giving in to rebels. He sent supplies and notified the Confederacy- the nation formed by Southern states. On April 12, 1861, the Confederates opened fire. Anderson surrendered 34 hours after shelling.
  • The Attack of Pearl Harbor

  • Brown v. Board of Education,

    They went to the court to stop the unequal treatment for being a different race. Nine black kids were allowed to go to an all white school and they were outstanding. A fifteen year old girl was blocked by the Nationalk Guard and was caught in a mob and people were yelling. Her and the rest of Little Rock Nine went home and stayed home for weeks. Those students became Little Rock Nine. President Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort the students back into school.
  • Elvis.

    He is known all over the world. He was one of the most important figures in the 20th century. He died at his Memphis home, Graceland August 16th, 1977. He died in the bathroom, his finace found him there when she went to do her makeup the next morning.

  • 9/11

    Terrorist took control of four commercial airliners and used them as weapons. They took one and hit two towers that made up the World Trade Center. It killed nearly 2,500 people. Another airplane as flown into Pentagon-the headquarters of the Departmen of Defense. And one other one was flown into a Pennsylvania field. This brought Americans together..
    The terrorist group was led by Bin Laden, him and his followers were based in Afghanistan.
  • My Chemical Legacy.

    My Chemical Romance were together for 12 years. From 2001-2013. It consisted of Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro, Bob Bryar, Matt Pelissier, and James Dewees. They sung/played alternative rock, emo, pop punk, and post-hardcore. Since then Mikey Way made a new band called Electric Century, and Gerard Way is on his solo debut.
  • Robin WIlliams...

    He was a comedian, an actor, and filmmaker. He has recieved two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actor Guild Awards, and five Grammy Awards and manny more. Robin Williams was announced dead August 11th 2014. He commited suicide by hanging himself.. Many people have done a tribute to his death. He was inspirtation to many people, and he still is.
