The goal of the mass suicide was to reach "a higher level" and leave their bodies and transform into another being. The group all died drinking the same poison and wearing similar clothes.

From December 20, 1989, to January 31, 1990, the U.S. invaded Panama. Under George H. W. Bush's administration, operation Just Cause was launched. Dictator Manuel Noriega was deposed. After the invasion, the defense forces of Panama were dissolved and President Guillermo Endara was sworn into office.

On February 15, 1992, Jeffery Dahmer was indicted and found guilty of 17 counts of murder. Dahmer is one of the most glamorized and famous serial killers of all time. Dahmer tried to get an insanity plea but it was rejected, he was sentenced to 15 life sentences. Dahmer was beaten to death by his cellmate, Christopher Scarver, on November 28, 1994.

Apr 29, 1992 – May 4, 1992 tension arose as the officers who beat Rodney King were being prosecuted. What kicked off the riots was the increasing amount of police brutality against black Americans. Rodney King's beating and the killing of Latasha Harlins set off the widespread disturbance in Los Angeles. There were around 63 deaths, 12,111 arrested, and 2,282 injured from the uprising.

The case of The State of California against O.J. Simpson lasted from Sep 26, 1994 – Oct 3, 1995. Celebrity and former NFL player, this trial received a lot of attention from the media. Robert Kardashian the father of the Kardashian family, who at the time were not famous, was one of O.J.'s many trial lawyers. Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend. Simpson was not found guilty.

The Olympic Park Bombing was a domestic terrorist attack in Atlanta, Georgia during the Summer Olympics. Although only two people died, one hundred and eleven people were injured. Eric Rudolph was the person who carried out the attack. Rudolph had also bombed an abortion clinic and a lesbian bar after he has done the Olympic Park Bombing.

In Boulder, Colorado, at only 6 years old the child pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey was bludgeoned to death in the basement of her family's home. This case has been an extremely popular cold case and many conspiracies have circulated in an attempt to piece together the unsolved puzzle. JonBenet was reported missing early in the day, then her father later found her body in their basement.

From March 24, 1999, to June 10, 1999, NATO bombed Yugoslavia. Around 1,000 members of the Yugoslavia armed forces were killed and around 500 civilians were killed. Yugoslavia consisted of the countries that are now known as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. NATO bombed Yugoslavia in response to the advancement onto UN safe areas by Bosnian and Serbian forces.

The fourth-deadliest school shooting in the U.S took place at Columbine Highschool. The Columbine Massacre injured 21 students, killing 12 students and 1 teacher. The shooting opened the conversation about control laws of firearms in the U.S. and mental health among adolescents. As a result school security became one of the biggest priorities and gun culture was shunned.
