  • Plessy vs. Ferguson

    Plessy vs. Ferguson
    This was supreme courts ruling that this doctrine would make it constitutional for blacks and whites to have separated facilities as long as they were equal. This was later overturned by the supreme court in Brown v. Board education. This is helpful in the classroom as several schools now are very diverse and getting to understand there are different cultures is important in building a respectful person.
  • World War One

    World War One
    Standardized testing was put into the educational world after the army used it to identify potential officers. They used standardized test as a way to track students abilities. In the classroom this helped some students as they could identify them as educationally successful and instead of going to the military or work force right away. They could have a base of test to determine if college would be beneficial for them after.
  • National School Lunch Act

    National School Lunch Act
    This act was approved by United States federal law, this act helps students who are of a lower income family. When they can't afford or provide food for their kids, the school will offer a free and reduced lunch. This is helpful as it supports kids with the energy to learn throughout the day.
  • Brown vs. Board education

    This was a land mark in the United States educational world as it made it unconstitutional to separate public schools for black and white students. This plays a key role in the classroom now as so many of them carry different cultures and ethnic back grounds. Its valuable that students of different learn how to interact with each other for future encounters in the work force.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    This was the first showing that the soviets had beat the U.S into space. Leading to American schools spending over 1 billion dollars into science and math programs in public schools. This gave students the opportunity to explore and be challenged in math and science. This also increased exploration with students into science and mathematical fields.
