    James Watt designs a more efficent steam enigne. John and his partner John Roebuck became the most important engineering firm in the country. The steam engines were commonly used to pump water from the mines.

    The first fleet arrives in Australia on the 18th of January 1788 beginning British settlement in Australia. This caused severe disruption the aboriginials who had originaly been living on the land for thousands of years. The first fleet included 11 ships who set sail from Portmouth, England on the 13th of May 1787.

    In 1801, Ireland and Great Britain merge together to form what is known today as the United Kingdom. Scotland also had a great impact on the formation of the United Kingdom. It was given the formal name the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland however is only refered to as the United Kingdom.

    George Stephenson built the first railway that ran between Liverpool and Manchester in England. The railway ran at a speed of 60 miles. The railway ran on a 6 mile road.

    Many countries from around the world in 1840 travelled to Victoria due to the large amount of gold located in these areas. The law allowed anyone to keep the gold they found, which became of great asisstance to people as it was a period of time of economic depression.

    The American Civil war lasted for 4 years (1861 - 1864) claiming over 620,000 lives and leaving over millions injured. The war lasted for 4 years and determined the type of country the United States of America would be. The war started due to the differences between the free and slave states over the power of the government to prevent slavery in the territories that weren't states.

    Abraham Lincoln is assasinated by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln was shot in the left ear and entered a horrible state where he was parralized and could barely. After 7 hours of being in this condition, Abraham finally gives in and dies,

    The Orville and Wilbur Wright brothers design and achieve the first contolled, man-carrying, powered flight. The first flight lasted 12 seconds and reached a maximum height of 20ft and covered 120 feet. It took the Wright brothers approxiamatley 7 years to accomplish this experiment.

    Henry Ford produces his first Ford Model T automobile. The car cost between $850 - $950. It wa recognized as the first afforadable automobile. The first autombile was assembled in Detroit, America.
  • Titanic Sinks

    Titanic Sinks
    The RMS Titanic sinks hits an iceberg at 11:40pm on the 14th of April and sinks at 2:20am on the 15th of April. The inciditent took at least 1,157 lives. The titanic was thought to be an "unsinkable" ship, however this statement was obviously proved to be wrong.

    World War I saw the death of over 10 million people and over 20 million others wounded. The immediate cause of World War I was the assisination of Austria's Archduke Ferdinand. Over 30 countries were involved in the war including, Germany, Italiy, France, Great Britian, Russia, Austria etc.
