This Oil Canvas depicts an important historical moment: the swearing of the oath of the Treaty of Münster at the Town Hall of the City of Münster, on May 15th, 1648. After eighty years of domination by the Spanish, the Treaty officially granted independence to the Dutch. The painter witnessed this historical moment which concluded the Peace of Westphalia, along with the Treaty of Onasbrück on October 24th, 1648. -

This picture was taken in Paris while during the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 organised by the victors of the Great War in order to negotiate peace treaties with defeated Germany. The picture is called the Big Four because there are the four nations of the Allies - France with George Clémenceau, Britain with David Lloyd, the US with Woodrow Wilson and, Italy with Vittorio Orlando. -

The oil-on-canvas painting depicts the signature of the Treaty of Versailles in Louis XIV's Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. The Treaty was signed between the victors, known as the Allies, and defeated Germany. It put and end to the Great War (1914-1918). This painting was commissioned from Open to recognise the Peace Conference.
