  • Why they started to send convicts to Australia(political side)

    Before 1788 (before they arrived in Australia) England had a problem because the place where they were sending all the convicts said "we don't want any more convicts sent over here,we are a independent country" (it was America) So then they had to come up with an idea... (war of independence made america stop England sending convicts)

    The problem The loss of death caused a lot of problems but one of the main ones was the loss of death (which leads to the social side of things) which cause a lot of problems especially poverty.
  • Social side

    The social side of things was definitely not good,this leaded into poverty,starvation and dirty air thats was floating around (sickness,pollution) which then spread a big sickness that then caused death which then cause crime because there were so many people trying to get jobs because all the people who worked would of mainly died because there the ones outside breathing in the yuck air.

    The first fleet set of on 13th may 1787 and there first stop was Tenerife then to Rio de Janeiro and then the last stop was Cape Town then to Australia

    When the arrived they stayed on the boat for six days ( I don't know why?) But then it started to kick in that there in for a tuff time...
    After a few days they were running out of food so they had to plant there seeds,but after a few days of that they had seen no growth with the little seeds.So then they went up to Sydney cove and kept moving inland until they found the right soil.

    Convicts mainly ate bread,hardtack,salted beef or rarely pork,peas,oatmeal,butter,cheese they also very rarely ate rice,fruit,vegetables as they were more for the "non" convicts.Convicts often looked ragged and untidy. Most arrived in Sydney wearing their own clothes and without a change of clothing. Men wore coarse cotton shirts and trousers, waistcoats and jackets and a female convict wore an old dress and sometimes a jacket
  • Bennelong And Phillip

    Bennelong And Phillip
    Bennelong was caught on 13th November 1789 and brought to the settlement at Sydney Cove by order of Governor Arthur Phillip, who hoped to learn from him more of the natives customs and language. Bennelong took life among the white men and learned to speak English and became particularly attached to the governor.

    In May Bennelong escaped, and Bennelong was seen in September when he was among a large assembly of natives at Manly, one of whom wounded Phillip with a spear.
