Hero Project Timeline

  • Free-Write Subway Hero

This was the first day that we actually talked about our hero project. The first story that we discussed was about the subway hero and we were asked to free write about him after we finished discussing about him. This was also the first time i actually starting thing about what a hero truly meant to me. I wrote my thoughts on a piece of paper.

  • Why Courage Matters

Today in class we Mrs. Allen read to us a passage in a book called Why Courage Matters written by John McCain. This book also changed my opinion about what hero’s mean to me because i realized that even a person such a John McCain, a person who ran for vice president, can be considered a hero and had struggled as much as everyone else.
  • Kristi Quillen Interview

So today we watched a video where Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Simmons interviewed a former English teacher from Cinco Ranch High school named Kristi Quillen. She left to go and help in Costa Rica as a Peace Corp Volunteer. This added to my knowledge and confirmed my belief that anyone can be a hero and it doesn’t matter what race, status, or color but what you truly do to deserve that title. I truly think that Kristi is a hero because she left everything to help others in need in Costa Rica.
  • Library

Today our class went to the Library and looked for books in the biography and autobiography section to choose a person as our hero. I found a book on Roger Federer a famous tennis star. I was about to pick him but decided not to because he was more of a star than a hero. I felt quite disappointed but decided to come back tomorrow and find a different book.
  • Library

Today we went to the library again and after a constant debate on what book to choose and who to choose as my hero i came upon a book called the battle hymn of the Tiger Mom and it caught my eye. I picked it up and choose it as my hero because it shows how a mom (Amy Chua), despite her Asian heritage, changes hero view upon brining up a child and becomes culturally mixed with eastern and western culture.
  • Changing the World Powerpoint

For these two days we discussed different people around the world and how they are also heroes. We watched and listened to many songs and videos and I saw how everyone in society is trying to help others these days. It also touched my heart when i saw the little kids donating and having a fundraiser for the tsunami and earthquake victims in japan. In my heart they are truly heroes.

  • First Post On Edmodo

This was the first time i actually had to think about what a hero truly meant to me and how it incorporated with the hero that I had chosen and also how my idea of a hero had changed over that past two weeks. I learned that everyone could be a hero whether it is a little child or a senior citizen. I put this into a detailed paragraph for my first blog post.
  • Reading About my Hero

Today i reassured more about my hero on my free time. She is my hero and reinforces my idea of a hero because she opposed the Asian stereotype that all Asian moms are tiger moms and that it is a good thing to force and put that much pressure on children.
  • Heroes in Literature Second Blog Post

This was the second blog post that we had to post and it was for a quiz grade. This took the most time because i had to think of other heroes that i felt deserved the title of a hero and incorporate them in my belief of a hero. My views didn’t change this day either.
  • Sharing Biographies

Today in class our class brought a passage that they found interesting and shared it with he rest of the class. My views of a hero didn’t change by this but instead remained the same and made sure that everyone else also was along the same lines as me.
