We read John McCain's story about Roy Benavidez. A soldier who helped dozens of people while sustaining multiple gun shot wounds at the time. Benavidez showed courage through his acts of bravery.

Kristi Quillen is a former teacher for Katy ISD who now teaches other teachers over seas how to educate their students. Kristi shows heroic qualities because she gives up a lot in her life to teach under privliged people in another country.

I chose the book "Go for the Goal", an autobiography about Mia Hamm. I chose this book because I think Mia Hamm inspires many to work hard and never give up hope.

Tuesday Muse is a kindergartner who took initiative herself to change the world and raised money for the earthquake in Japan. Tuesday shows that you don't have to be an adult to change the world, you just have to be dedicated.

We listened to John Mayer's song, "Waiting on the Wolrd to Change". The song talked about how we all keep on waiting for someone else to be the hero and step up to change the world but no one ever does.

I submitted my second blog post on heroes in literature. From reading literature, I have learned many things about heroes. In The Secret Life of Bees, August Boatwright taught spirituality and love to Lily. In The Road, the man taught the boy to never give up. Even the hard truth of reality taught Ebenezer Scrooge to love and not be so ill tempered in A Christmas Carol. In A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton showed the heroic quality of self-sacrifice by giving his life to save Charles Darnay.
