As the only sons that Catherine had bore him had died as babies (Although her daughter later became Mary II), Henry divorced her after nearly 24 years of marraige, claiming that he shouldn't marry his brother's wife. In doing so, he seperated from the catholic church to create his own church, The Church of England. This was because the Pope disagreed with him about the divorce.
-
Soon after he divorced Catherine, Henry married Annhe Boleyn.
-
As with Catherine, Anne Boleyn bore him only a girl, Elizabeth, and a stillborn boy. So Henry asked Thomas Cromwell to hatch a plot and then had her beheaded.
-
Henry's next wife was Jane Seymour. She would be his favouite wife.

-
Jane Seymour gave birth to a boy, who would later become Edward VI, but died in childbirth. Henry was devasted when she died, because she had born him a male heir. When Henry died in 1547, he was buried next to her.
-
When Jane Seymour died, Henry immediately started looking for a new wife. Hans Holbien the Younger went to Germany and painted a flattering painting of Anne. Henry agreed to marry her.
-
-
Alas! When Henry saw Anne, he thought she was really ugly and divorced her less than a year later, although he did give her lots of lands and called her his 'Royal Sister'. In fact, she was the last of the six wives to die!

Next, Henry married a young woman, Katherine Howard.

Henry divorced and beheaded Catherine, claiming that she had committed adultury with a man called Thomas Culpepper. When she found out that she was to be beheaded, she ran down the hall screaming. It is said that her ghost haunts that hall in Hampton Court Palace.
