    200-500 Polynesian arrival

    polynesians arrived
    (It is important since Hawaiians is the people of Polynesian descent. This became the "natives" of Hawai'i)
  • 1778 Cpt. Cook

    captain cook claims he found hawaii
    ( It was important because Hawai'i then became mapped and known to the world.)
  • Kamehameha : Unification of the 8 islands

    kamehameha was a king who united all the islands in 1810 due to the surrender of kauai's king. (It was important because it was the first time all 8 islands were unified under one person.)
  • 1819 death of a great ruler

    1819 kamehameha dies (important because he was a great ruler)
  • 1820 Honolulu

    honolulu - becomes capital in 1820 (important since it is a capital )
  • Coffee - 1829 first coffee in hawai'i

    Coffee - In 1829 first coffee plant was planted in kona ( important because of what we know as kona coffee)
  • 1853 - diseases

    1853 - white man or foreign disease killed over 5000 natives ( This is important because this why there isn’t much hawaiians left over )
  • 1835, 1854 marks sugar industry

    1835 first sugar planted . first sugar mill 1854 - demand for workers brought immigrants ( It was important because of the sugar plantation and immigrants were brought)
  • 1874 - lunaliho , david kalakaua

    1874 - lunaliho last of kamehameha's bloodline dies. ( It was the last reign of kamehamehas) 1874 - king david kalakaua came into power and the merrie monarch which later became a festival
    in 1963(it was important since it was the last hawaiian king)
  • 1881 the beloved mac nuts arrived

    1881 - mac nuts arrived ( symbol of hawaii from tourist)
  • 1898 hawai'i becomes a U.S. territory

    1898 - hawaii became annexed into a U.S. territory , queen liliuokalani was overthrown( important because she was the last reigning monarch)
  • 1941 bombing of pearl harbor

    1941 - pearl harbor was bombed by japan and japanese in US was sent to military or put in camps (important day in history for natives and japanese descent)
  • 2016 finally the sugar ends

    2016 sugar ends - one of the last sugar farm closes (end of sugar cane the big industry)
