  • Period: 200 to 500

    Between the years 200 and 500- Polynesians arrive in Hawaii.

  • Period: Apr 14, 800 to Apr 15, 1200

    Between 800 and 1200- Tahitian's invade the islands.

  • 1736- King Kamehameha the first is born.

  • 1778- Captain Cook anchors in Waimea bay, Kawaii.

  • 1794- Hawaii is placed under protection by Britain.

  • The uniting of the islands by Kamehameha in 1810.

  • The pineapple/coffee industry takes off in 1813.

  • In 1820 American missionaries came to spread Christianity.

  • Hawaii and the United States sign peace treaty in 1826.

  • 1835 - First Sugarcane plantation started.

    This is very important because it is the start of a very big trade product that Hawaii is able to produce.

    The Epidemics of 1848 and 1849 which killed about 10 thousand people.

  • 1850- King Kamehameha III makes Honolulu the capital of Hawaii.

  • In 1868 there was a massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on the richter scale.

    Killed around 50 people.
  • 1885- Japanese immigrants come to Hawaii to work the sugarcane plantations.

  • 1887 - King Kalakaua brings back many Hawaiian traditions that were once lost.

    Hawaiians consider him the “merry monarch”.
  • The republic of Hawaii was made in 1894.

  • The annexation of Hawaii in 1898.

  • 1900- Hawaii becomes a territory of the US.

  • The bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
