Exposition 1 Background
Ben Tomlin is thirteen years-old, and he just moved from Toronto, Canada to Victoria, Canada. Ben's dad is a scientist, and his mom is still in college, she just picked up a chimp for Ben's dad's experiment on whether chimps can learn human language. -
Exposition 2 Setting
The story takes place in Victoria, Canada. The Tomlins just moved to Victoria from Toronto for an experiment that Ben's dad has been waiting to get the oppurtunity to do. The Tomlin's house is in a suburban/rural neighborhood. -

Rising Action Conflict
Ben thinks of Zan as a little brother, but his parents keep telling him that Zan is only a project, and that Ben shouldn't get any emotional attachment to Zan. -
Rising Action 1
Peter becomes a student member of Project Zan, he is Ben and Zan's favorite. -
Rising Action 2
Ben starts school at Windermere, the private school that the Godwins attend. -
Rising action 3
Zan signs his first word. The word was hug, and it was directed to Ben. -
Rising Action 4
Project Zan is featured in Time magazine. They didn't get the front page, but they got six pages of fame. Ben gets some popularity out of it. -
Rising Action 5
Project Jennifer begins. Ben is now completely determined to get Jennifer Godwin to like him back. In my opinion, he is being a little obsessive. -
Rising Action 6
Ben kisses Jennifer Godwin after going on with Plan Jennifer. It worked. The kiss starts their romantic montage. -
Rising Action 7
After being buckled into the learning chair by a student worker for Project Zan, Zan is released out of the chair by Ben. Then, he bites the student worker, Ryan, very badly. After going to the ER, Ryan quits, but Zan and Ben aren't upset with that at all, but Ben's dad's thought is completely different then their's. -
Rising Action 8
Zan is featured on 60 Minutes, and there is a part about the torture of the learning chair. -
Climax/Turning Point
Ben's dad decides that Project Zan is coming to an end. Apparently Zan wasn't learning language. -
Falling Action 1
Zan is sold to a scientist that works for a university in Nevada. Peter decided to start attending the university so he could look after Zan. While dropping off Zan to Dr.Helson, the Tomlins stay in Nevada for a week. -
Falling Action 2
The Tomlins get home from Nevada. ben keeps hoping for the school year to end so he can go back to Nevada and see Zan, the school year is almost over. -
Falling Action 3
Ben goes to a school dance and gets to know Shannon better. He knew she was nice, but he spent the longest amount of time with her than he had ever had at the dance. -
Falling Action 4
The school year is finally over for Ben, and his mom and him go to see Zan. During the trip to Nevada, Ben and his mother talk, unlike the trip to Victoria that he went with his dad for. -
Falling Action 5
After eating fondue at Peter's house and finding out that Dr.Helson is planning to sell Zan to a testing lab, Ben and his mother steal Zan back. -
Resolution 1
Dr.Helson finds out that Zan was stolen, and obviously the evidence points back to Ben and his mother, so Dr.Helson calls and asks if he can get Zan back or they will be charged for robbery, so Helson sends out Peter to get Zan from the Tomlins. -
Resolution 2
The Tomlins get ownership of Zan, after they try to get Zan and fail, but then word spreads that Dr.Helson was going to send Zan to a testing lab, so for good publicity, Dr.Helson gives the Tomlins Zan back. -
Resolution 3
After getting a great idea from Peter, the Tomlins send Zan to a sanctuary in Florida, where Zan will be treated very well.
