    A slave named Mackandal used widespread poison to poison the masters, animals, and water. It made many white masters live in fear that they would be poisoned. Eventually, Mackandal was found and beaten to death.

    A slave revolt was started in the French colony of Haiti. The revolt was lead by frmer slave Toussaint-Louverture. He used guerrilla war tactics and defeated the French.

    In the public square, white leaders hung two colored soldiers to death, Oge and Chavannes, to initiate fear in people of color who attempted to rebel. Oge and Chavannes were fighting the white leaders for the same rights that the white people had, and they were found trying to escape to the Spanish part of the island to escape constantly being beat.

    After assembling in France, the French finally decided on giving free people of color the same right the white people had. Paris decided to send a second civil comission to enforce the law. The first one of 6,000 troops didn't bring peace.

    After the rebels Toussaint Louverture from with Dessalines and Henri, fromer slaves. Along with Dessalines and Henri, Louverture made peace with revolutionary French because of it’s abolishment of slavery.

    In January of 1802, Napoleon landed in Saint- Domingue and ordered and invasion force attack. Nepolaean and Toussaint fought for number of months. After those months of fighting Toussaint agreed to cease- fire and retired to his plantation.

    Napolen reintroduced slavery to Haiti. Dessalines lead the revolt against the French with the help of the British. On November 9, 1803 colonial athourities surrendered.

     Toussaint Arrested & Death
    After the fight between Nepolaen and Toussaint, which in Toussiant retied back into this land. Year later Toussaint gets arrested and taken to a dungeon in the French Alps. In April of the same year Toussaint died.

    General Dessalines gets dictorial power over Haiti making it the second independent nation in the Americas. Dessalines claiming himself Emperor Jacques. He was killed two years later in a revolt.

    The U.S. Recognizes Haiti's Indpendence
    On this day in 1862, the U.S. finally recongnized Haiti as an independent country eventhough it had been for almsot 40 years. This was due to the shifts in policies in Haiti's government and domestics concerns they had. They also did not like how the slaves revolted and got freedom because the leaders of the U.S. at the time thought differently.
