  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence (DoI) was written by Thomas Jefferson. The DoI was written by the colonies to King George III to declare independence from Great Britain. The DoI was rejected at first. Eventually, the states gained their independence and are now known as the United States of America. This document is very important because it is what made us a free country. It also marks the date of “The Fourth of July” or “Independence Day” where Americans celebrate our freedom from Britain.

    Civil War

The Civil War, in my opinion, was the most important war of the U.S. It was a battle between the North and the South and it was mainly over slavery and the fact that the south was seceding from the U.S. After almost 4 years of battling, the South surrenders. The Civil War is important because it changed our history forever. It ended slavery, and, in a way, reunited the country. The Civil War will always be remembered in the U.S.

The Gettysburg Address was given on November 19, 1863. It was delivered in Gettysburg National Cemetery. It was a speech that dedicated the Union soldiers who had died at the Battle of Gettysburg. The Gettysburg Address was important to the Civil War because it was a turning point for the war. The union had their victory, and now they were just fighting over the issue of slavery. The Gettysburg Address is one of the most well-quoted and well-memorized speech ever written/spoken.

    Battle of the Little Bighorn
The Battle of the Little Bighorn was a battle between Americans and Native Americans. The American troops were led by George Custer. The Native Americans ended up beating the Americans in only 2 days. It is important because it led to a lot of disagreement between the Natives and the settlers.

    Chinese Exclusion Act

The Chinese Exclusion act banned the Chinese from immigration to the U.S. for 10 years. This is important to our history because it showed a great deal of prejudiceness and was eventually repealed when they realized how prejudice it really was.
  • Period: to

    The Great Depression

The Great Depression was one of the worst times in U.S. history. It was caused by a stock market crash on October 29th, 1929 and lasted until the late 1940s. The Great Depression spread from the U.S. to the rest of the world. It is important to the U.S. because even though people were suffering hard times, they made the best of it and discovered their inner strengths of art and music.

March on Washington / "I Have a Dream" Speech
The speech that Martin Luther King Jr. gave was very inspiring to all people and was presented at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. His “I have a Dream” speech presented how Martin Luther King Jr. felt about the racial segregation. He had a dream that everyone could be treated equally. His speech was very influential to many people back then, even some whites. This historical event is important because it was one of the first steps to ending segregation in the U.S.
  • Eruption of Mount St. Helens

    Eruption of Mount St. Helens

    Terrorist attacks of 9/11
September 11th, 2001 is a day Americans will never forget. It was the day our country was attacked for the first time besides Pearl Harbor. 4 planes had been hijacked, two of them hit the two buildings of the World Trade Center, one hit the pentagon, and the other had a crash landing in a field in PA. This event is important because it was the first time our country was attacked and it is a day of remembrance of those who died.
