The "Bill of rights" as it was called allowed the 2nd Amendment to pass, this gave citizens the right to bear arms.

In December of 1837 Georgia passed a law that outlawed handguns, the law however was ruled unconstitutional and was eventually abolished.

After the Civil War (even after slaves were freed) the southern most states adopted a law that dissallowed black people from owning guns. NOT FAIR!

in 1871 the NRA (National Rifle Assocation) was created. This group was made to sharpen up the shooting skills of an average citizen to prepare them for the war.

In 1927 Congress passed a law that would ban the mailing of easily concealed weapons.

Congress passed this law which put a ban on fully automatic weapons, such as the Tommy Gun (Thompson Sub machine Gun) this was due to an increased number of gang and mob related murders/ violence.

This act put limitations on any sort of weapon that you could buy. If you were selling firearms you had to have a special permit, if you bought a gun your name and adress would be recorded along with the gun you bought. Convicted felons of vicious crimes were not allowed to have guns.

This banned the importing and manufacturing of semi-automatic weapons in the US and also created weapon free school zones.

The NRA files a suit against the FBI to dissallow them taking information on people who purchase guns.
