    THey had the most powerful army probably on the mplanet at this time and it lasted for a couple hundred years. This came a t a price though. The men had pretty much no freedom until they were 60. They did not focus on any studies and fcused strictly on warfare and discpline.

    Spartans conquered the neighboring region of Messenia and took over the land. They used the Messenians to be helots. Helots are people forced to stay on the land and work.

    They battled this group for a couple of weeks and held off there army with only 300 but there lines were soon penetrated and Sparta feel.
