  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Purpose- It was so only England could get America's products and money. Outcome- It not only angered the colonist but they started smuggling and meeting other countries out on the ocean to illgeally trade.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Purpose- This act was to keep the colonist from moving/expanding westward into the the Appalachian Mountains (into the Indian's territory). Outcome- Speculators were mad that they had bought land pass the Appalachian Mountains but they don't get to use it. Anger began to rise between the colonsit and Britain.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Purpose- The sugar tax was very low so colonist would pay it but the tax was still collected. It would also try and stop the colonsit from smuggling. Outcome- Colonist were furious, they believed it violated their rights as Englishmen.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Parliament needed more money so everytime colonist wanted to make a document legal there had to be stamp on it, and that stamp would cost the colonist money. Outcome- Colonist protested and would burn effigies representing tax collectors.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Purpose- The law stated that "Pariament had the right to tax and make desicions for the British colonies", because the colonist were refusing to pay the taxes. Outcome-This probably upset the colonist very much because they just had the stamp act repealed and now there is a new act stating that they MUST pay there taxes and the Britain has every right to tax them.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Purpose- Parliament still needed more money to pay off the debt and the troops so they started taxing things colonist had to have, paper, paint, glass, and tea. They also did this act because coloniest rwould resist internal taxes-those inside the colony. Outcome-The colonist boycotted all things they were taxing and or anything made or from Britain.
  • Coercive Acts

    Coercive Acts
    Purpose- King Geroge lll realized they were losing control of the colonies. So he passed the Coercive Acts which were harsh laws that punished people of Massachusetts for their resistance to Brisish laws. Outcome- Colonist sent food and clothing to help Boston. The colonist said in violated their rights as English citzens.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Purpose- THe Bristish East India Company was ruined without the colonist buying there tea. Parliament passed the act to save the company. So the act/law allowed the company a virtual monopoly or sole control of the trade for tea in America. Outcome- Colonist boycotted tea and vowed to stop the East India Company's ships from unloading.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    Purpose-These laws were made for Quebec. It gave Quebec the area west of the Appalachian Mountains and north of the Ohio. Outcome-Britain ignored the colonist' complaints. Colonist made new laws- the Intolerable Acts.
